Small Businesses Vs Social Media

Updated: Oct 24, 2022

We are all looking for an antifragile way of living. A life where our job is not our only source of income, that we have a soul nourishing side hustle to come home to. The process of creating is fun, but certainly at some point desiring some sort of reward is only natural. The question is, how to reap such rewards , especially when there are so many options out there?

To make this fun we decided to break down each tip into phrases you might want to suggest to your team members.

“LETS GET VIRAL”

We are sure that you have seen a brand go from a zero to thousands of followers almost overnight. Ah, yes, the power of social media. But do not be fooled, going viral is not as easy as it seems, even something that seems out of the whim takes strategic thinking.

The first thing to consider is whether you have a distinctive tone of voice for your brand. Develop a certain way of communicating with your audience and take your own twist on trends within your industry.

The second thing you should keep in mind is the type of content your audience is interested in. For instance, you may be targeting fashion enthusiasts who have an eye for intricacy, you could take this opportunity to create behind the scenes videos of how your products were developed.

“DON’T FORGET THE HASHTAGS”

As a small business hashtags work wonders in making your profile reach the perfect audience for you. Using relevant and trendy hashtags along with geo tags will definitely help raise your online presence.

You should also give consumers incentives to repost your products on their stories, whether it's the chance of a feature or a special discount for their next order from you. Reposts are highly effective in growing an audience and sales conversion, because most of the time people trust what their friends have to say about you.

“VIDEO CONTENT IS SUPERIOR”

Why look at a single image when you could look at an entire scene played out for you? With the rise of TikTok, and Instagram Reels… It is evident what consumers truly want.

The perfect way to develop video content is to see what existing brands within your industry are doing. What is working well for them? What is not working well? How can you do something similar...but even better? Is there a gap of content you could fill?

When creating video content it is better to include various elements instead of hyper-focusing on your product itself.

For instance, if you sell ceramic plates, instead of taking straightforward pictures, you could fill the plate with mouth-watering pastries, accompanied by a picnic-like backdrop. By doing so, you are not only selling a product, but you are also selling a lifestyle. Trust us, this is bound to attract attention, afterall who doesn’t love romanticizing a lifestyle they desire?

Oh… and don’t forget to use trending audio of course, that is a real game changer.

“INFLUENCER MARKETING GOES A LONG WAY”

This may be more applicable for brands that have excess inventory to spare. Which most small businesses don’t, but it is definitely worth the mention. As you grow your business try to invest some money in sending your products to influencers relevant to your brand.

Initially, you can start by sending them to micro-influencers within the follower range of 5k to 10k. So let’s say you start selling journals, you probably want to target individuals who are known for documenting health and wellness. Make sure to add in a handwritten note that is catered specifically to them, so yes, stalk them if you have to. Not only will this catch their attention but also make them feel emotionally involved.

“CONSISTENCY”

The key to getting discovered is by putting more content out there, quantity will bring quality. You also want to explore multiple social platforms aside from Instagram, like: Facebook, Pinterest and TikTok.

Do 1 post a day on each platform and this will compound over time, and will also increase the chances of your business blowing up. What restrains growth is this misconception that everything you put out there has to be perfect, but that’s not true, even if you do make a minor error, the chances are that nobody even notices or cares.

Those were a few tips that have been effectively proven in helping small businesses grow. We wish you luck on your new venture, and remember to have faith!
